Topic: A book review and discussion about how the old rules need to move over for the Next Rules of Work post pandemic.
There is an updated lexicon by Gary Bolles for the future of work as we head beyond the pandemic. We will review the highlights of his book and apply the lens to corporate development. And answer the questions “have you paid enough attention to the changes and figured out how to work differently?” and “what changes have you made?”
BAM!? Who is the best available mindset as you retain and recruit talent? What are the most relevant strategies for growing and training your workers? While reading Gary A. Bolles book, The Next Rules of Work, He refers to 3 categories of skills:
1️⃣ Know skills: one field, not transferable without adaptation
2️⃣ Flex skills: transferable
3️⃣ Self skills: self management traits
Know skills have frequent expiration dates. Flex + self skills are yours to cultivate along your career path. These are the skills that will put you squarely in the BAM (best available mindset) category. Here are a few highlights for the discussion:
✅ Followers of the “Next Rules” embrace a different mindset. Individual workers contribute creative solutions to complex problems and pursue their own list of responsibilities.
✅ Employees no longer focus only on completing predictable assignments. Modern employees mix and match the stability of a day job, the uncertainty of gig work and the gamble of launching a start-up.
✅ Managers no longer act as the fount of all
workplace knowledge. Instead, they’re guides (coaches) who help workers achieve their goals.
✅ Frontline employees act as co-equal teammates – partners in a fluid and flexible business environment.
