Session Focus: A  roadmap for employers as to why they should invest in mental health and wellbeing and how they can strengthen their organizations.

The discussion centered around the Surgeon General's framework on workplace wellbeing. As one participant shared, "84% said their workplace conditions contributed to at least one Mental Health Challenge." This startling statistic highlights the urgent need for strategies to support employee wellbeing.

Here are three key takeaways from the session:

  1. Workplace wellbeing is critical, impacting health, retention, productivity, and more. The Surgeon General's framework provides research-backed guidance, outlining 5 essentials grounded in meeting human needs.
  2. Addressing wellbeing requires a strategic, holistic approach across the organization to drive culture change. This includes leadership modeling, breaking down silos, and integrating practices into talent management.
  3. Small steps matter – simple practices like mindful minutes, walking breaks, and recharge time can make an impact. But consistency and reinforcement of the wellbeing culture are key.

The presenters and participants shared insights on the challenges in prioritizing wellbeing, getting buy-in, and addressing stigma. But many offered examples of impactful initiatives their organizations are taking – from apps to educational workshops to resilience training.

The takeaway was clear – employee wellbeing needs to be a priority woven into organizational practices. The Surgeon General's framework offers an evidence-based tool to guide companies in developing comprehensive wellbeing strategies. Small steps may be the start, but cultivating a culture that sustains wellbeing is the goal.
